Apparently there’s a PSP modchip in production! Below is the quote from pspupdates:
We have received an email from Team DST to let us know about a mod chip they’ve been working on for the last couple of months. He let us know that the chip does not require any soldering, but you will need to replace some of the wires on the motherboard and everything is included in the package. With this chip you can play any region coded UMD on your PSP, along with homebrew regardless of your PSP’s firmware version.
The picture above displays one of their technical specialists circuit checking the final prototype. The first batch of these chips will only be sold on ebay and they plan to make 100 chips, with more planned if there a success.
The Mod Chip Has The following features:
– Full control Input through the psp’s screen and controls
– Separated From The motherboard
– Custom Interface
– Built In 88mhz Processor
– Dual Memory Cores (allowing For expansion)
– Software completely open source
– Completely internal
– Allows play of import UMD films
– Complete override of software on the psp
1.Homebrew Mode Only Allows software to be run off memory stick
2.Normal Mode Allows of chip’s default features and signed code on the memory stick
– CPU Clocking allows speeds of up to 365mhz which may damage the CPU so we don’t recommend it
– And through an optional cable you can connect a USB hard drive to the chip requires you to use the chips own software you can not use it directly with the psp’s firmware
– Full Instructions

That is one horrible and blurry photo, it’s believable that a mod chip is being done, but COME ON, u can crack down a console but cant focus a pic with a digital camera?
i donty actually understand what does the chip does except playing other region umd, and how it guarantee it will be ok for further version. Running homebrews on all version, doesnt necessarly mean anything, we can run homebrew on 2.0 without it.

This site is not focused on being as up-to-date as possible and providing all information. This site is great for it forums great design, downloads, yadda yadda yadda, the news is only what is most relevant. They “copy” because they [www.psp-hacks.com] recieve the news at more or less the same time, but ask whether it is important or if it is real.

also, be aware that PSP news often comes from many sources, who send the same description of their product/news to ALL of the main PSP sites - and therefore it looks like everyone is copying off everyone, when in fact they are all just using the same source. If you think this site is shit, dont use it. As for me, i use them all, and expect to see the same news on each, but i dont let it ruin my week.

it might run the umd loader, but is the kernel of umd loader able to load iso with 2.0 or 2.50 firmware, or will it emulate 1.5 since it was programed on that format? leaving it useless as shit.

Opening up the PSP is no big deal, I broke the screen on my last one so me and a mate installed a new screen no probs at all… so I’m not worried about installing the chip as long as it has somekind of guide.

What will this chip do? It has to run some sort of firmware version from $ony or else the games wont play. Unless it will run non-kernel mode homebrew only. Is this thing emulating 1.0 or 1.5? What form of PBP will it execute? Single or exploited?
They give us a blurry pic and no info then they claim to sell the chip for the lowest cost in history. Not to mention they developed the chip in record breaking time. A couple months? Oh please…

alot of u have to understand that this chip isn’t neccissarily 22.99 usd… its going to be on ebay, an auctioning website. Many people use autobidding which brings it up way high… this is why they may be trying to sell it on ebay because they don’t know what the price should be… all they know is that they want it to be over 22.99…

I bought a computer off e-bay, my computer is a Sony Vaio and cost (at the time) 3,000+ at best buy or circuit city or what have you. On e-bay i found a listing of some guy that had 20 of these computers, and you press buy it now at 1500 and you get one, and it deducts the one i purchased from the “amount available”.

Cant see i’m going to get much benefit from this chip, ive downgraded to 1.5 and for some reason i seem to be able to play any region umds on my psp ! is this normal, I have a US psp and can play Uk films with no problem, I dont even have to boot up through the loader or anything?

I’ve come across a method TO PLAY GTA: LCS (UMD) WITHOUT UPGRADING TO FIRMWARE 2.0.
Although I only saw it in a forum and never tried it out yet (my LCS is shipping), it’s worth trying out.
In firmware 1.0 or 1.5, load a UMD that doesn’t require 2.0, and when the white PSP screen comes out, take it out and put LCS in.
