one other thing you’ve gotta take into consideration; $ony has more than likely looked at the capability for black-hats to write viruses/trojans/malware for the psp. it’s possible with anything, but you’ve got to imagine it’s a good bit more plausible for a system that’s capable of a wi-fi connection. in this case though, it’s prolly just $ony trying to cover it’s own ass as far as illegal .iso’s.

Well all I know is I’m not going to stop buying UMDS because I’m too caught up in playing Homebrew. The thing with the updates is they are free, sony isn’t making a profit by making us upgrade. They need to open up the system to the homebrew world and watch the dollars roll in.
If they were to market the psp as an all in one game system they’re profit margin would go up 100%

Hey #5….actually, believe it or not, Microsoft STILL loses money on every XBox they sell. (The system I mean.) The MS Xbox division made money for the first time (rather than losing money) in the financial quarter that they released Halo 2, but if you look at the annual figures, they lose money because of the Xbox system sales. That is the reason that MS went to a different design approach (more like Nintendo and Sony) where they OWN the chip designs on Xbox 360. MS was never able to control their cost on the original Xbox because the CPU and GPU were owned by Intel and Nvidia respectively. Since MS was “locked in” to those manufacturers, neither of them had any reason to lower their costs to MS. On the Xbox 360 however, MS owns the GPU and CPU designs (which were designed with the help of ATI and IBM respectively) so now they can have more control of those components prices by shopping the manufacturing to whatever FAB they want. It also means that MS can redesign the chips later to decrease costs, etc. And even do a “slim” version later in the life of the X360 like Sony did with the PS2…if they chose to do so.

Just relax man, if he wants to know how to turn off his screen, tell him. You turn it off by holding down the button that changes the screen light (dark, bright, brighter, and when on ac adapter, brightest), and he will go away because he is satisfied :/

it doesnt matter if sony block homebrew by introducing games that need a firmware upgrade. i’m sure the umd burner is in the works and whats stopping the “backup” iso’s from being played then?

but i had a thought. if sony do manage to stop homebrew, will the gamers lose interest in the PSP all together? what put sony top of the consoles? the fact that the playstation had the highest number of playable “backup” games in the market. dont lose hope gamers. i think sony is on our side!

I’m so glad that the PSP Homebrew community is a mature, friendly environment. This really makes me, and others, want to get in on the experience that is the homebrew scene.

I wouldn’t mind playing my NES/SNES/SCUMM games on the go, or having an IRC client on my PSP, or using some of the other really snazzy Homebrews I’ve seen. But not if it means having to socialise with a community as rabid as this one.
