No more wavy background lines!
Gary13579 | October 7, 2005
Fluff (AKA NaoNeo) has released a way to remove the wavy lines of the PSP background, so that you only have the picture!
From NaoNeo’s site:
It’s a lot of hype over a single byte change?, i can’t beleive that crap, anyway if you feel like removing the wavey lines from your background, all you have to do is go open this file :
flash0:\vsh\resource\system_plugin_bg.rco
Go to offset 0×00000646 and change the value from 35AF to 37AF, simple!, basically what it does is break the code for the actual lines, thus disabling them, but as with all firmware ‘mods’ i highly suggest you only do this using MPH’s firmware loader or with Flash0 emulation enabled in umd emulator 0.8, Flashing edited files to your firmware can brick your psp, so do the sensible thing okay people? :)
Now why on earth, after telling canti exactly that, does he/she go around like it’s some sort of special discovery?..
You can download the original video of the file modification in action right here.Going into greater detail, thar be basically two versions :
Fluff’s : Go to offset 0×00000646 and change the value from 35AF to 37AF
pyro’s : Go to offset 0×00001B74 and change the value from CCBC to 00BCWhile the edits are indeed in difference places the overall results remains the same, you could do a simple byte edit in a thousand places of the file and it would break the lines just like the two above edits! how dull.
Enjoy either way ~
Although it IS possible to flash this into your firmware and make it permenant, I highly suggest against it. If you do flash it, then your chances of bricking are dangerously high.
Instead use MPH’s Firmware Emulator, or use UMD Emulator (by the wonderful Humma) with Flash0 emulation set to on.
On a site note, NaoNeo is in need of certain system registery files. If you know how to dump files from flash, and have NOT used PSPet, WAB pad region switcher, or Elz’s pad region switcher, do NOT send him a dump.
Read the post on his site here.
Please remember, if you do not know how to do something, DON’T! I don’t want to be responsible for people bricking their PSPs, and nethier does NaoNeo.

no! i like my wavy lines!!!
Heh, they look good on my background too, but some people find it annoying ;)
what the f&*k
I don’t have no wavy lines, you guys gotta stop drinking.
You have always had the wavy background lines in your background.
Sometimes it isn’t as easy to notice, but set the background to be pure black and you will see ;)
num 3. u will have 2.o then u fuck
hey just an idea but if u get the wab vesion changer on a 2.0 psp then somehow if we can make it run and change the vesion to say 1.50 wont the homebrew files think its a 1.50 psp and RUN??????
#6, hey just an idea but could you not post this in every comment?
2 post for the same thing? Lol the fact that we can remove the waves seems to excite some people. Why the fuck would we remove those nice waves.
#6 lol your an idiot. Sony isnt stupid, there not going to add a line of code that says, if version is 1.5 and lower, allow to run homebrew. else dont run homebrew. like wtf of course not. they just fix the bugs that allowed homebrew to run. f*** man your an idiot.
Where do I download this from? Has anybody been pleased with this? I am kinda happy to hear that they go because they interfere with my pspersonalize custom backrounds.
#6 – if ur theory is true, then howcome when you run the version changer on 1.50, and change it to 2.0, you can still run homebrew. clearly the firmware number has nothing to do with being able to run it or not, but its the firmware itself
6: You should really read up and inform yourself a bit. For one thing, the 2.0 exploit only allows 64 kb of code…not a lot to work there. There’s a little piece that can load Hello World, but that’s it thus far. Second of all, if we did manage to get the wab changer to work then how come those with 2.0 aren’t rejoicing of having both web browser AND homebrew?
Another thing, the emulators don’t give a shit what version psp you’re running, it uses a vulnerability that exists on the PSP to run! This was pointed out by #6. Next time *THINK* before you post.
I meant it was pointed out by #11; damn I wish we can edit
The lines are like screen savers. They prevent burn on you screen. Its good to keep them on.
14: TFT displays don’t suffer from screen burn in as CRT’s do
Anybody know of a program to open .RCO files??????????????
a good FREE hex editor link anyone???
i’ve got a question, i have 2.0 on my psp and when i set my own pictures as my backgrounds i don’t have those wavey lines, just the picture. i only have the wavey lines when i use the colored backgourns that come with the psp that change every month. is this normal not to have them when usuing your own pictures???
You guys need to fucking relax and not take knowing a nugget of information as making you a superior piece of shit. Heaven forbid someone DON’T KNOW SOMETHING AND HAS TO ASK A QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!! Fucking worthless shits….
#19: If you’re going to flame on someone, at least use proper grammar. Or else you look twice as stupid. You are right though. People seem to forget that everyone was a noob at some point in time.
#19:It’s ok v 1.50 don’t have Wallpaper function so they’re using PSPersonalize so now they are able to take that 2 waves on v 1.50
V 2.0 don’t have waves on Wallpaper.Only on Original PSP Wallpapers (12 month colors(colours))
#20 I was tired when I posted that. Was just a little angry too.
19: You should take a chill pill, these guys asked a question and I answered them, simple as that. It’s not my fault you have the attention span of a fly.
20: “People seem to forget that everyone was a noob at some point in time”. I was a noob as well but that didn’t take away the fact that I could read.
Seriously what gives?! They ask a question and someone answered them. What else are the comments section for?
@13, i think people are already working onm modified firmware to just that, have the browser and homebrew.
“19: It’s not my fault you have the attention span of a fly. ”
I did not ask a question, I was just commenting on all the rude comments every made towards another poster.
Note: http://www.psp-hacks.com was hard to find.

It takes awhile to find a site that is actually usefull and not loaded with spam.
Kind of like this one.
I’m just saying, try being curtious to your fellow human beings and not so fucking rude to them.
How do we setup our flash0:\ folder to be use like the example given for the no wavy backgrounds. I have dumped my data.psar file and now have the out:\ & outx:\ folders and have edited the system_plugin_bg.rco file now what?? I’d appreciate a little help.
I wonder if there is anyway to make another design other than the wave. Something like, maybe, an exotic dancer..lol
shut your face
how would naoneo be held responcible. they aren’t hosting any files, just providing information. Stupid stupid stupid.
WAIT WHERE DO I FIND:
flash0:\vsh\resource\system_plugin_bg.rco
WHERE IS IT ON WINDOWS XP OR ON PSP 2.7 WHERE ABOUTS IS IT TELL ME PLEASE THEN CALL ME A DUMB FUC*ER.LOL.
HEY! I’ve got an idea why don’t you just set a jpeg that’s a solid colour as your background.
