Two New PSP Apps – Tiny SID & Mod Play v0.1

greg | October 2, 2005

Two new PSP apps have been released for 1.50 –

PSP Tiny SID v0.1

Rainer Sinsch has released the worlds first SID Player for the PSP. This version can be still considerd as Test-Version but works well enough for your retro-style music pleasure. Thanks for the news Rainer! (For anyone who intends to copy this news, feel free to give credits, as this release has been sent to PD Roms for publishing.)

Installation notes (for PSP v1.5):
Extract the memory-stick folder to your memory-stick as it is. If you want more sid files just put them into the sids folder located at the root of your memory-stick.

Features:
PSP-TinySID plays all available SID-files located at the /sids folder. Press “X” to cycle through them (no file browser yet). Everything will be played at 44.1khz, including sid-filters and 2x oversampling. Please note that this program uses the tinysid engine and *NOT* anything sidplay1/2-related.

Known bugs:
This is a test version, don’t expect too much for now.
- Only support for single speed songs for now.
- No support for subsongs for now
- Maximum of 512 songs in folder (will be changed later).
- No digi-support.

PSP MOD Play v0.1

Rainer Sinsch has sent me another application for the PSP. This time it’s a MOD player for the PSP. Release source of this application is PDRoms, so please give proper credits (proper credits means: mention at least pdroms along WITH a link).

Installation notes (for PSP v1.5):
Extract the memory-stick folder to your memory-stick as it is. If you want more mod files just put them into the mods folder located at the root of your memory-stick.

Features:
PSP-MODPlay plays all available MOD-files located at the /mods folder. Press “X” to cycle through them (no file browser yet). Everything will be played at stereo 44.1khz, including linear interpolation. Supported file types are all .MOD files: Sound-tracker, Star-tracker, Pro-tracker, etc – up to eight channels.

Please note that the included mod files where taken somewhere from the internet, respect the authors.

Known bugs:
- mods folder is limited to 512 songs max

I just thinks it’s always good to have this kind of compatibility towards old files… imagine that in 20 years there’s a new psp out and it doesn’t support mp3… Many of us would like to be able to play “old” mp3…

Anyway, they did this because they find it useful and they just share it with the others… they don’t ask anybody opinion :)

Hey! This is very important indeed. It allows you to playback all the old-school “bleepy” style music. Long live the Commodore 64!
