WAB Downgrade Video

greg | September 10, 2005

Update: A new high-res video has been released. This one clearly shows a 1.52 being downgraded to 1.50. I must say it looks damn good; however, now psp-dev say it’s fake and WAB no longer mentions it on their site.

With not knowing what to believe nowadays, the video downloads have been removed. Guess we’ll wait and see until this supposed downgrader is released.

TALL_GUY has just sent me an email which appears to be a downgrade video from WAB. Together Team PSP-DEV and WAB have developed what apparently is a 1.5x firmware downgrader. Equipped with a sexy little introduction and soundtrack, the video portrays a user downgrading their firmware. Its also been rumoured this downgrade will work with 2.0.

Unfortunately this is pure speculation at the moment. Stay tuned and wait! Perhaps the downgrader will be made available to the public soon.

PSPSet v0.6

greg | September 10, 2005

Update: PSPset v0.6 is now available for download - this release fixes a few bugs.

Download PSPset v0.6

Update: Team Emergency Exit has just released PSPSet v0.5 - this new version includes a variety of updates and new functionality.

  • you’re now able to backup & restore the original gameboot.pmf
  • change wallpaper has been added
  • restore original wallpapers
  • fake the firmware version - similar to WAB’s version changer
  • swap X-O buttons

Download PSPSet v0.5

Do you want to change the startup sequence when you load a game on your PSP? Team Emergency Exit has now made this possible. With the use of PSPSet you’re able to customize the PSP boot video. Similar to PSPersonalize, this tool writes directly to the flash memory - there’s a slight chance you may render your PSP useless if done improperly; we do not take responsibility if this occurs. If you know how to follow instructions, there shouldn’t be a problem.

To use, simply copy gameboot.pmf to the root of your memory stick (ms0:/gameboot.pmf) and run the app. Please note, the gameboot.pmf video should not be much larger than 1MB. Again, we’re not responsible nor is Team Emergency Exit, if you brick your PSP.

Download PSPSet v0.1

PSPectrum v0.1 Released

greg | September 10, 2005

HexDump has just released PSPectrum v0.1!

This is the first Spectrum emulator for the PSP - it runs 95% of 48K/128K games and also supports sound with 48K games only.

Installation is easy

  • simply unzip the zip archive
  • copy the PsPectrum and PsPectrum% directories to your memory stick under x:\PSP\GAME

Spectrum roms must be copied to x:\PSP\GAME\PsPectrum\games. Currently only .Z80 and .SNA are supported for now.

How to use - from the main screen:

  • R trigger: shows keyboard
  • L trigger: shows menus
  • SELECT: shows file selector

HexDump recommends running this emulator at 266MHz or 333MHz - anything less you will experience sound problems.

And the future of PSPectrum includes:

  • Border emulation: it is done at this time but still not perfect (contended mem needed)
  • Better sound quality: emulation sounds jerky sometimes.
  • 128 sound emulation: Nothing done, this will be added in next versions.
  • Support more formats, for now it only supports .Z80 and .SNA
