Wab was release code for 1.5 and 1.0 to change your firmware to either 1.0, 1.5, 1.52 or 2.0

Since there is now a new exploit for the 2.0, someone had manage to put my thoery to the test. They recompiled the code to work for 2.0

Now when running the app it sets the firmware name to be 1.0, Now! when you run the 1.5 update, The psp thinks its a 1.0 so installs the 1.5 firmware over it.

holy crap. it worked. I didn’t think it was doing anything, but then I checked the version and it says “1.00″ and I gasped loudly.

I entered the “VSHELL PHOTO” whatever command in the internet address bar. I’m assuming that’s where it was supposed to be done. If I’m right and not just an idiot, then THE URL IS WHERE YOU TYPE THE VSHELL COMMAND. I think. perhaps that’s where people are getting confused.

i just put the files where the read me said then i went then via the psp to the photo menu and selected the overflow pic then the screen went black with soom code on it i rebooted the i went to the game menu on the memorycard and ran the update waited a minute and the when it said failure i did a hard reset and schazaaam 1.50

After that go to the game menu and choose the 1.5 update
and voila it should work

#113 download the downgrader then create an folder in your game folder called UPDATE. download the 1.5 update at this wesite http://shockzone.free.fr/PSP/Tool/EBOOT_1.50.zip and save it in the game folder then put the overflow.tif that comes with the downgrader in your photo folder and put the h. bin and index. dat files that come with downgared in the memory stick root folder both files should be in the same place as your psp folder no turn on your psp psp and go to the photo menu go to the over flow and t5he psp should turn black and freeze turn off your psp turn it back on and go to the game menu and install 1.5

Coz the instruction said this downgrader is made for the 1.5+ users, so I presume that some getting back to 1.0 MIGHT HAVE THE CONSOLE WITH OTHER VERSIONS LIKE (120V, A) or something else.

HOW TO DOWNGRADE!?!?!?!

Step 1.

Upgrade to psp 2.0

Step 2.
Run the MPH program.
You will see a black screen with some fonts.

Step3.
Hold down the power button. until it turns off.

Step 4.
Now you will see the firmware is 1.0. THIS DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE FIRMWARE 1.0 STUPID NOOBS.

All This does is change the firmware name. So You can update it to 1.50

Step 5.
Run the psp 1.50 update install located in your games directory. If you have not placed it in already.

Run it. and install it.

You will notice an error at 99% it always has this error no matter what version your updating to. YOU PSP IS NOT BRICKED!!! It’s just frozen. so Hold the power button. wait for it to restart. it will boot up, and now you have a Psp 1.50.

Step 6.
Go download a psp 1.5 game, place it in your folder. under psp/games/name.

there should be 2 folders called

name, and name%, place both files in.

Step 7.
Run the Games

Step 8.
Enjoy =P

US 1.51, I have upgraded it to 2.0 then followed the instructions in the text file word for word, except after the reboot, nothing displays… its just blank. nothing comes up at all. (the power light is on though).

This is so cool i used the 2.10 project instead of the 1.50 Eboot. Now it says its 1.00 and it runs homebrews and surfs the web like on 2.00….I need to post this 2.10 thing! ITS SO COOL!!!!

I just tried with taiwanese PSP loaded with 2.0 EU firmware. After the black screen with the funny characters I had to rmove battery, but it was impossible to load the 1.5 firmware as it says the file is corrupted, I have tried with different 1.5 firmware source with no luck ):

HOW TO DOWNGRADE!?!?!?!

Step 1.

Upgrade to psp 2.0

Step 2.
Run the MPH program.
You will see a black screen with some fonts.

Step3.
Hold down the power button. until it turns off.

Step 4.
Now you will see the firmware is 1.0. THIS DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE FIRMWARE 1.0 STUPID NOOBS.

All This does is change the firmware name. So You can update it to 1.50

Step 5.
Run the psp 1.50 update install located in your games directory. If you have not placed it in already.

Run it. and install it.

You will notice an error at 99% it always has this error no matter what version your updating to. YOU PSP IS NOT BRICKED!!! It’s just frozen. so Hold the power button. wait for it to restart. it will boot up, and now you have a Psp 1.50.

Step 6.
Go download a psp 1.5 game, place it in your folder. under psp/games/name.

there should be 2 folders called

name, and name%, place both files in.

Step 7.
Run the Games

Step 8.
Enjoy =P

I had US version 1.51, upgraded it to 2.0 a few days ago. Did the instructions as stated by #185 and mine is now BRICKED. Power light turns on but nothings else. I have rebooted it by holding down the power and removing the battery for 15 secs. I noticed my WLAN is turned on, don’t know if that made any difference.

Worked fucking well with my EU-PSP!!!!!! You just have to put all the files on your psp as described and then go to the psp-photo-menu and press “x”. Photo-Menu is the PSP-Menu-Icon on which you normally can view your photos. (I guess your photo-directory on your memory stick hast to be empty except the overflow.tif) Thats all!!! Big shout to MPH!

where did it brick? when it said it was at 99% error? you have to hold for much longer then 15 sec. i had to hold for like 60 sec. take out batt. place back in, turn on. see what happens

Easier? Instructions:

1. Download the MPH downgrader from: http://www.psp-hacks.com/downloads/MPHDowngrader.zip

2. Obtain the PSP 1.5 Eboot File from: http://shockzone.free.fr/PSP/Tool/EBOOT_1.50.zip

3. Place your PSP into USB mode, and enter the GAME folder, if it does not already exist, create a folder called UPDATE, and extract the EBOOT_1.50.zip into this folder.

4. Stay in USB mode, and Extract the following files from MPHDowngrader.zip into:

h.bin & Index.dat

Location: \ (root directory).

This is the directory you see when you first the the folders on your PSP after you place it into USB mode.

6. Connect the AC adaptor to the PSP.

8. Check your PSP’s version. It should now be 1.5. Enjoy.

Try charging your battery for a while. I had that same problem when upgrading to 2.00. Would get the same error message even with the adapter plugged in. Didn’t work until after I had fully charged my battery.

i had the same problem but i have a 1.5 and 2.0 here….. the 2.0 was at low battery even though it was plugged in…. i switched batteries with the 1.5 with 63% power in the battery and it worked…. the power in the battery matters!!!

#242 YES, it does upgrade again to 2.00 but why would you want to do that? just use pspset and trick it into thinking its 2.00 and use fastloader with the tiny web browser from wipeout pure. i think it’s down to 24 megs or something for the browser. you don’t need 2.0 at all!

Is it me, or do none of the emulators work after you have downgraded? I have tried all genesis and snes emulators, and all return the error “The game could not be started {80020001}”??????

This rocks! It worked perfectly. Anyone with a quarter of a brain should be able to make it work easily. It worked on the first try, NO BRICK, changed US PSP w/ japanese v2.0 to fully functional v1.5. MPH rocks! I feel bad for anyone that bricked their psp, but it is not the downgraders fault!!! I am not only able to downgrade to v1.5, upgrading back to US v2.0 worked like a charm too. The absolute best of both versions is just an upgrade or downgrade away. 5 stars for a kickass job!

Ok, so after rebooting from the overload screen I went to the game folder of my PSP and only found a file that said: “Corrupted Data” anyone know what this is and how I can fix this?

Just a quick note - make sure the left hand switch (the one that switchs between the wireless and memorycard setting) is switched to the mem card (push down)

otherwise the update doesn’t work correcty.

any browser that works on 1.0 WILL work on 1.5 but only after using kxploit on the eboot.pbp the only one that i’ve tried though is the wipeout pure browser.

#263 yes, once the dgrade is complete you can do anything you wish to the files on your memory stick. i’d recommend clearing out all the files from the downgrade. those are not needed after it’s successful

I’ve got a working 1.5 US PSP, and I want to upgrade to 2.0 and then downgrade back down to 1.5, because some people say they still have their web browser, which I don’t have rignt now since it’s an original 1.5. Followed instructions from post no. 232, and it worked just great. Have European PSP. Notes:

I got the “contact Sony” error at the end of upgrading. Just turned off, and on again. Not a problem.

Then I got a message, that my old settings file was corrupted, and to press the O button to restore default settings (very nice!).

After that, I had to choose language, time-zone etc. as if it was a brand new 1.50 machine. And then it worked. Tried homebrew - works just fine.

I guess you should NOT TAKE THE BATTERY OUT during this process, and ALWAYS HAVE THE POWER SUPPLY PLUGGED IN during this process.

That’s my advice to people.

IT WORKS!! 1st thing my PSP didnt want to restart after opening PHOTO so i had to take out the battery than i went to system setting and it said 1.0 so i launched the PSP Update v1.5 and it worked got to 99% stoped and i needed to restart my PSP didnt want to restart so i can to take out the battery got the blue error screen [normal] then it worked OMG!!!

Is it safe to delete the files (h.bin, index.dat, etc.) in the root folder after a successful downgrage? Just making sure =P

I got the same thing just now. Download the WAB Version Changer (its on this site) and put it on your PSP. It will extract everything to the right place if u do it properly. I just did it and Burnout is fine, as are the Homebrews. Good Luck!!!

Kick butt… Working well. Just went 1.5 to 2.0 browsed web for hour or so then back to 1.5….
Since I’ve got 2 memory sticks I put the upgrade to 2.0 32m memory stick with my savegames and the downgrader on my 1g with all my homebrew…

Wouldn’t it suck if Sony seized on the opportunity, now that lots of people are trying out 2.0 for the first time, or dabbing in 1.5 and then going back to 2.0, to quietly release an altered update that would patch up the security hole.
Here we are, thinking that we can switch back by doing the network update and then, whoops, can’t pull off the downgrade anymore.
Is there a way of upgrading safely? In other words, can we download the 2.0 upgrade file and keep it on our desktop whenever we want to upgrade back to 2.0 safely?

The root of the memory stick is for most people e:\ . When you view the contents of the memory stick it will say PSP, MP_Root, ETC. You don’t drag any of the files to any of the above folders but rather the folder that those folders exist in.

arg… i’m stupid… heheh…. heheh… its case sensitive and i’m a dumbass… you have to have UPDATE in all caps for it to work … and now its updating……

and it worked :) … i got 1.5… lost my web browser… but i can just upgrade again if i want it… now it’s on to homebrew…

Another confirmation. And anyone who’s worried about it being a ‘virus’ like 292 said, dont worry. his batteries prolly ran out or he did something wrong. it would be nearly impossible to make a virus like that. it would mean decrypting the 1.50 eboot.pbp, which is impossible, then inserting code somewhere.

but, it works, and if you’re having trouble with HB, just read about it and use kxpoloit.

This worked for me and everything, its nice to have this downgrader for when i need it. But for right now, im sticking with 2.00. I like the web browser. (Prepares for useless opinion flaming)

I did that and it works fine. The
downgrader will bump you right back after you have fun with the browser for a bit :-).

after downgrading you could delete everything and still have the 1.50 firmware

look at #129 he has what youre looking for PUT it on GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT 1.50
Create UPDATE folder all caps
just put EBOOT 1.50 that #129 has

For those of you having trouble w/ the second part of the downgrade…. 1.0 to 1.5 if your seeing a corrupt icon when your trying to upgrade i think its because the folder UPDATE in psp/game folder Must be in all CAPS.

If Sony wants ppl ot stop hacking, then how about making it so that you can watch any video file type, that way you can just download it to your video directory and watch it.

I have 1.0 JP and 1.50 US. I upgraded my 1.50 US to 2.00 US. Then I followed the instructions. After overflow.tif was executed, some print appeared on the screen. Take out battery, restart the PSP. Going to system version it shows 1.00. Then I plugged in the AC adaptor, ran the 1.50 update. It gets to 99% and freezes. Restart the PSP again, upon reboot it gives an error, System Settings Corrupt, Pres O to fix. Did that, then it fixes the settings, gotta re-enter all settings again(even Net Settings). Now its a 1.50 again and can run homebrew.

It works like a charm. No problems here. Dont know if it works on 1.0 and I will not try it either. Simply because 1.0 runs homebrew better than 1.50(none of that kxploit shit… and can run BARE ELFS, right out of the box).

whats so better that 2.0 has that 1.5 doesn’t (except web browser)thanx to all the people that have posted for all the info. im getting a psp tomorrow.

Are the Australian PSP’s the same as the New Zealand PSP’s? I have a NZ one and am only a student: if i brick it, i cant afford a new one!!! So… can anyone 100% guarantee me that it WILL NOT brick my NZ PSP? Anyone?

I always had a 1.50 but my cousin bought a 1.52. He upgraded to 2.0. I downloaded the downgrader and successfully downgraded his to 1.5. I copied over all my emulators and Madden 06 and it worked flawlessly on his psp. Out of curiosity, I then upgraded back to 2.0. Worked fine, then downgraded once again, 100% both ways. This does truly work!

you can brick your psp doing a regular upgrade. The risk is slim

How come the two file links at the top of the page are different sizes? One is around 3.5kb an the other just over 4kb? Are they different? #67 claims he has kept his 2.00 features with the larger file. Which one did you use?

Just incase anyone was wondering, This does not downgrade to version 1.0. It just tricks your PSP into believing it has 1.0 software. Enableing you to upgrade to version 1.5. There is a slight risk of bricking your PSP, But I think it’s quite worth the risk.
