PSP Media Player

Posted by Alias420

Thanx to PSP-Spot for being able to read chinese and finding this story:

A user, gaeko99, from a Chinese console forum, CNGBA has released PSP Media Player v0.0.5, a Media player for 1.50 firmware. Plays standard AVI (DIVX/XVID) on the PSP in fullscreen. (I’ve tested with a 464×352, 30fps XVID and it plays, although it’s pretty jumpy. It doesn’t seem to scale the image yet but image quality is perfect.

Also plays MP3, OGG, WMA.

Movies must be in /PSP/VIDEO
Music must be in /PSP/MUSIC

From main menu:
[SELECT] : File Open
[START] : Finish Program
[CIRCLE] : Action (Select movie/music)

While Playing:

[DPAD-LEFT]: Rewind
[DPAD-RIGHT]: Fast forward
[TRIANGLE] : Finish File Selector/Change CPU Clock(Playing Video)
[SQUARE] : Stop
[CROSS] : Pause

After selecting “File Open” the first option selects files in the VIDEO folder, the second option selects files in the MUSIC folder.

From the author:

QUOTE
This is version 0.0.5
Please don’t expect high performance.
Enjoy at your own risk.

Formats supported (or intended to possibly be added) include .MOV (Quicktime), .SWF (Shockwave Flash), and others. (Based on mplayer codec?)

You can grab the file in our PSP Downloads section or by clicking here

PSPRadio 0.33b Final Released

Posted by Alias420

Raf e-mailed us with his latest release of PSPRadio v0.33b final. Here is what is new:

What’s new from 0.32b:
-Corrected logging, so that it won’t double-line feed.
-Added connection timeout so that if the server is not respoding, PSPRadio will timeout after 5 seconds.
-The connection now sends a message (can and will be used for the gui) for now, a ‘.’ is printed every second while trying to connect.
-New option in config file: WIFI-AUTOSTART if set to 0, then the user can select the WIFI profile from inside the app.
-Now reports an error if the user tries to start the network and the switch is off
-Metadata is now parsed
-Network profile selection now is limited to actual configured network profiles, plus it displays the network profile name.
-Reverted resolver ntoa / aton logic, to help ppl with DNS problems.
-UI now completely encapsulated as a separate object, and an interface created that all UI need to follow. - This will allow for multiple
user interfaces to coexist, and to ease transition to GUI.
-Text UI now follows the interface; was also cleaned up a bit during conversion.
-Added exit synchronization, to help prevent crashes on exit. This is done with a semaphore.
-Keeping the loglevel at 20 seems to help prevent the app from crashing on exit also.

You can grab the file from our PSP downloads section or by clicking here

modsyn’s PSPOOF Tool

Posted by greg

modsyn from our forums has released a [soon-to-be] handy tool for the PSP 2.0! Once a PBP loader is made available for the 2.0 firmware, this will allow PSP’ers to easily share content between units.

Taking advantage of the 2.0 photo sharing functionality, PSPOOF will “inject” any file to a valid jpeg image - allowing you to freely distribute it to other PSPs. The receiving PSP will utilize PSPOOF and extract the “hidden” file from within the jpeg. This will enable you to share anything - MP3’s, videos, etc…

In the meantime, all those running 1.50 can check out this application and provide any constructive criticism.

Download & discuss PSPOOF here

Till then, check back for a PBP loader - hopefully in the near future!

Setting the Record Straight

Posted by greg

As many of you are aware there’s been some beef between a few people in the scene - namely MPH, SonyXteam and toc2rta. We all know MPH is responsible for providing the world with a working [2.0 -> 1.50] downgrader using the exploit discovered by toc2rta, something Yoshihiro - now SonyXteam - was unable to pull off, yet continued to take credit for aiding in the development.

MPH has stated he is not a member of SonyXteam and they had nothing to do with the downgrader except provide a few test results. You can read this for yourself over at the psphacks.net forums. Also feel free to donate to MPH for this wonderful accomplishment.

You can also read toc2rta’s response to SonyXteam’s claims and accusations.

So, to set the record straight - toc2rta is the shit for discovering the 2.0 exploit and MPH is the shit for providing a full functional working downgrader. Nothing more - nothing less.

Head over to psp-spot for additional details & quotes on this story.

Now, let’s all just get along.

South Park Robotron Game

Posted by greg

LiquidIce has released an addictive little game called South Park Robotron - it’s based on the classic Robotron game, written in the LUA scripting language.

Dpad moves Cartman up/down/left/right
Triangle, Cross, Square, Circle shoots cheezy poofs in different directions
Kill the Kennys to get points.

When your health goes to 0 the game ends

Unfortunately this is for 1.50 users - no 2.0 support.

Download South Park Robotron

Enjoy!

2.0 Firmware Dumper

Posted by greg

A firmware dumper for 2.0 has been released! This works in the same manner as the previous 2.0 exploit [homebrew] demonstrations.

Download 2.0 Firmware Dumper

How to use:

  1. Place ‘h.bin’ in the root of your memory stick - i.e.) x:\h.bin
  2. Set wallpaper to frame_buffer.png (without overflow.tif present in the PHOTO directory, or it will crash).
  3. Add overflow.tif to the PHOTO directory, and open into the photo
  4. Watch the firmware dump to your memory stick!
