UMDs are 2.3-inch optical discs housed in protective cases. With data storage capacity of 1.8GB, the discs can
store up to 140 minutes of DVD quality video content. The format was developed by Sony for the PlayStation
Portable gaming system. In January 2005, Sony announced plans to open the format to content providers
interested in releasing movie and music on UMD as well as to other hardware manufacturers who want to create
systems that play the discs.

Earlier we reported on the Bochs x86 emulator being ported to the PSP by Matan. This is indeed true and has opened the door for a wide range of options that the PSP can now do, not limited to but including the running of: FreeDOS, Linux, DLX Linux, NetBSD, OpenBSD, PicoBSD, Pragma Linux, Debian 3.0r0 and 2.2r5, and any other disk images with pre-installed systems on them (which are on the bochs sourceforge site here.)

That’s great news maybe some company like Maxtor will make a UMD burner and other companies will provide blank UMD recordable media. Then we’ll be able to store movies on UMD rather than on expensive memory stick.
INXS? Bob Marley? Iron Maiden? Aren’t these bands a bit old for PSP’s target audience? I would hardly expect a 17 year old to know who Iron Maiden or INXS(their reality show doesn’t count) are. But it’s nice to see these bands get covered in semi-pricey UMDs.
Lol, I’m 18, and I was 15 when I heard them the first time, hooked ever since. Saw them live when I was 16. But I indeed think for this generation music Like Linkin Park would be better.
