PSAR Dumper v0.1 for PSP

It seems that ‘PspPet’ from Ps2Dev has created the first PSAR extractor.
This program also has the ability to DECRYPT certain PRX files from the PSAR (since 2.0 has a different encryption. this program will only extract the 2.0 PSAR and NOT decrypt it).
Here is a quote from the readme:
PSAR Dumper .01
A tool to help legal reverse engineering of the PSP system components.
Extracts the contents of the update data file, and saves them as
separate files on memory stick.
When it can, it will also automatically decrypt the .PRX files
(like the PSPSDK PRXDecrypter tool)Advanced expert tool.
NOTE: if you have never disassembled an ELF file before,
you probably shouldn’t be using this tool.Legal Note:
The files you download (ie. the updater EBOOT.PBP) and the files
extracted by this tool (ie. the contents of the OUT and OUTX folders)
are all Sony copyrighted material !!You can use them under certain “fair uses”.
Do not post these files on the Internet.Use this tool at your own risk!
The tool itself contains no Sony copyrighted material.

Tested and works for the following PSP Firmware updates:
Old 1.00 “BOGUS” update
1.50 update
1.51 update
1.52 update
2.00 update **NOTE: for the 2.00 update, the ~PSP encryption is different. The OUTX folder will be empty.
This is great news because it creates many possibilities such as:
Ability to find new exploits
Better understanding of PSAR format
May lead to a windows based extraction tool
Possibilities of 1.5/2.0 Hybrid firmware
May lead to creating ‘custom’ PSAR files (eg. PSPLinux as main firmware [once it is written :p])
Better overall understanding of PSP firmware.

We’ll end up seeing a hybrid 1.5/2.0 firmware that will run homebrews, new games, and webbrowser.
By the end of the year we will see homemade “hybrid” firmware, homemade firmware, and maybe modchips.
ok. I will summorize… This WONT work on 2.0… but it will work with the 2.0 PSAR file… This means we can now play with the extracted firmware files of 2.0
OK so what is this program, and can it be downloaded form this site?

All this does is EXTRACT PSAR files… HENCE the title!
I cant wait until this is ported to a windows app… also, the next version should preserve directory structure…
So all that this does is take your current firmware and dump it? is it possible to get the files from 2.0 so could I (1.5) use the suede web browser without upgrading? it says it converts it to EBOOT, so someone would need to dump their 2.0 on this site. but it says you can’t use it if you’re 2.0. Shit, one step away!

Grrr.. Please Listen… This does NOT dump your current firmware!!! It will extract the PSAR file. What does this mean?… The PSAR file is found within EVERY update eboot. This is the firmware IMAGE. This program extracts that. This means on my 1.5 psp I can copy over ANY PSAR file and extract it. If I put a 1.52 PSAR file It will extract it. If I put a 2.0 PSAR file it will extract it… OK, this is an extractor of a firmware image… not a current firmware dumper!
AHA!!! thank you, sir. but allow one more retarded question. if i extract the 2.0 update through this, will i be able to run any of the upgraded firmware, such as the web browser, mp4 playback, etc.?
nope… not at this point. All this does is extract the files from the PSAR file. Think of it as a RAR extractor, or WinZip. However, now that we have the files we may be able to create a hybrid firmware (to add these features. But, at this point it just extracts the firmware.
