DJSP - Audio Visual MP3 Player

greg | July 29, 2005

Update: Andy has released a new version of DJPS - v0.12a

Andy has finished developing his own MP3 player for the PSP and just emailed it to us - DJSP!

Supported features:

  • MP3 playback, of course
  • 7 Different Audio Visuals! (press Left or Right trigger to change)
  • 4 play modes - normal, sequential, random & repeat
  • Instant Audio Modifiers (button equalizer)
    • Press Square to Reduce bass.
    • Press Triangle to Increase bass.
    • Press Circle to increase Treble.
    • Press X to increase volume.

A note from Andy:

“It’s still quite unfinished. Hope you all enjoy it. I’ve been working hard for the pass month learning psp programming, reading up mathematics, having panda eyes to create this. If you have any questions, comments, etc, and I have time, email me”

The music has to be in the /PSP/MUSIC/ folder for DJSP to find it. Make sure you have at least one song in the folder.

Refer to the included readme.txt for further information and Andy’s email address if you wish to contact him.

Enjoy this fine piece of homebrew!

awesome work! nice to see people contributing. As to those who don’t get, STFU! Its something different than whats fed to you by corporate executives. The authors of homebrew ACTUALLY LISTEN TO FEEDBACK! Try emailing Sony and I doubt they will give a shit.

Thnx again…. very nice job!

good visualisations but when your listening to mp3s your hardly gonna wave the psp about goin HEY LOOK I GOT VISUALISATIONS FOR MY PSP! .. I think people will stick to the original mp3 player rather than this, the interface is pretty pants also.

OUT OF TOPIC: ADMINS

you should take down the restriction for background resolution, since it’s not a requirement and you actually will get sharper images with different resolutions.

here’s example:

Awesome idea! I didn’t even think something like this would ever come out for my psp. Great for listening to Pod Casts. (I have a Nomad Zen but I think I’d like to keep Phil Hendrie seperated from my music) You rock something solid.

I tried to get it to work as well. It also froze up on me when it said choose an mp3…before when i had songs in individual folders…it wouldnt list any of them…and when i moved a couple to by themselves thats when it froze up. Also on 1.5 i tried sending the php file with eXploit and it didnt reconize it and gave me an error message.

Hey there is a newer version of this out now. And have to say there was much improvement. This is from the read me:

* Full 10-Band Equalizer Implemented!!! Press Triangle to bring up the equalizer window and press Square to enable/disable it. Basically, you can increase the volume beyond the PSP’s limitation and be able to alter sounds.
* The First Bar is Software Volume Control, bars 1-10 emphasizes each frequency.
* (by popular Request) Change Display mode by pressing X in visual mode.
There are 3 modes: Normal, Suppress Display, and Power Saving (no visuals and uses less power).
* Play Mode change (normal, sequential, random) switched from Triangle to Square button, I needed the
Triangle for the equalizer :-)
* Display dimming suppressed (enjoy visuals more)
* In MP3 file selection window, SQUARE is now the switch mode button.
* Displays play time, and other little bits of stuff.
* To Fast foward, press Right in visual mode, to restart song, press Left.
* Small bug fixes

Now that there is a volume boost this this rocks even more. I have noticed that it sticks everynow and then though.

And to the guy above sorry I am not sure how t help ya. I jsut dragged the two folders into my game folder and it loaded up fine and worked great.

I’d just like to say that anyone who chooses to create or make things a litte easier or better than they already are great because it this world today all u see is negativity and hatred because some bustahs didnt think of it or come up with the idea first. stop hating and start congradulating people for doing something positive in anything. a comment is just a comment and if its not positive then keep it to yourself with your monkey ass. great job to all those who contribute to advancement and upgrading things to make em better. Peace

I just downloaded the .rar (Winrar to unpack) unpacked it, dropped the DJPSP and DJPSP% folders into the GAME folder on my PSP and that was it. I have a firmware 1.5 and it works great. Not quite sure why people are hating on the program. It does everything the PSP player can do and more. Why is that a bad thing? When you go to the store and by a new stereo deck for your car are you gonna yell at people for buying the decks with EQ options and visuals cause you think its gay.. ??? My psp is going right on top of my dash and getting hooked right up to my car stereo so I can have a mp3 player, video player, visualizations and anything else someone develops for the darn little thing. Its time you closed minded bastards found a new hobby…

Alright. Can someone answer my question directly and specificly? I am runnin gon VERSION 2.0 Will it work on 2.0 or not? Yes or no. And if so, step by step if you would, tell me how to make it work and what folders to put it in. There wasn’t a whole lot given as far as descriptions and I guess there isn’t a readme bcause I didn’t find one…
Thanks.
If you can help me out, e-mail me at ChezPizmo@Hotmail.com
With the subject “DJSP” if you would be so kind. Thanks in advance!

Im a long time user of this reliable piece of homebrew. I feel the homebrew scene is cool, but its slowing down. Pls stop with the hating because developers dont have to come out with anything, they can keep their programs to themselves.

To respond to 49, it is compatable with 2.0 through gta loader or the mph downbgrader utility. Make sure to turn off your anti virus thinghy
