i have 1.52 right now, and i dont know if i should update to this, or wait till it is officially released in NA. i mean, so i can update by using the NETWORK UPDATE function. If any1 tries this out, tell me if it is worth it. i would also like to know if it is faster than the Wipeout pure internet, and the other game one that was shown on this site

Believe me wait it out jason. I updated one of my PSPs which was a 1.5+ firmware so there was no point in not upgrading. It has an amazing browser, but I am certain the homebrew crews out there will strip it out and make it available for 1.0 and 1.5s. It’s better to wait, than update and find out that some very cool homebrew came out, ’cause then you can’t downgrade.

I had version 1.51 firmware but decided to update for the new features. The broweser is alot faster than the wipeout one and alows you to save downloads to the memory stick. Version 2.0 is good if you dont mind giving up hombre games

Its pretty easy. With the usb cord, make a file under game reading upadte, and paste the eboot file ther. Then when you use your psp, look under game, and it’ll be there. Pretty sure i got it right, unless the file was bad, which i doubt

As of right now I downloaded the 2.0 update from the Offical PSP site & put it on my PSP. Everything so far has been in ENGLISH, so for those of you asking about that, yes everythings in english. The update just finished and I am about to check out the web browser and tell you guys how good it is.

The browser is extremly easy to use. Its all Enlish and its really fast. The 2.0 Update is great and I would recommend people to update their PSPs.

I think I’ll stick with 1.5. Sony’s evil candy will not tempt me away from homebrew.

Yeah you can run e-messenger i used msn messenger off there and started bragging to my mates mwahaha, i think the net browser works really well, you can download mp3s off of websites and save them directly to the music folder

It’s perfect, you would never know it wasn’t the US version. Everything is in English.
To install, DL the update
Connect your PSP via USB
Open the PSP/Games folder
Create a new folder called UPDATES (all caps)
put the file in there.
Run it fromt he game option.
Make sure you have the power cable plugged in and let it go

why is every one arguing people with 2.0 should be happy they have a browser that they will get bored of and can only use when their home or at a hotspot and 1.5 can look forward to the n64 and PSX emulators in the works, for all of those 2.0s who say that games are going to require 2.0 to play there’s already a loader that can get around this?

The update WORKS for US BASED PSPS. I already installed it and everything works perfectly fine and is in all english. The browser is very fast and easy and the theme thing is pretty cool.

I had 1.52 on my psp so I did 2.0 upgrade why not.

Nothing wrong with updating if you have 1.51 or 1.52, I guess. But there’s also the possibility that they’ll crack those firmwares but not 2.0. But there’s also the possibilty that they’ll crack all of them. But if you have a 1.5 PSP, I recommend that you keep it that way.

Umm.. ever heard of IrDA? It’s a homebrew application that can send and receive files. You can also manage your files will File Assistant. So I don’t see what the big deal is. And besides, I don’t upgrade not just because of emus, but because of other homebrew like UMD Loaders and the Sony Remote Control. lol Once I fooled around with Sony TVs in a store. My friends and I were laughing our asses off. It’s things like that, that make me love homebrew.

Well if you jumped the gun when you bout you psp and updated to .51 or .52 then upgrade. This browser smokes the wipeout browser. This one has a mouse and the pages fit on you screen you don’t have to scroll all over. The speed is ok but for the most part if you have v.51 or .52 then update. ITS COOL

Connect your PSP to your PC via USB cable.
Go to the directory /PSP/GAME/ in your memory stick.
Create a sub-directory named “UPDATE� (MUST be uppercase)
Copy the downloaded EBOOT.PBP file into this directory (/PSP/GAME/UPDATE).
Disconnect the PSP from the PC
Go to “Game� -> “Memory Stick� on your PSP
Browse to the Update file and load it.

i have to say this update is pretty decent. i headed over to this park near my house where i get about ten wi-fi connections and this works alot better than the wipe out pure browser. i like this update.and besides this firmware will be hacked like all the others.

Hey! I am gonna update for sure. But I have to update at the library. The computers are so damn slow. Yet when I just go to Network Update it goes really fast over my psp. But right now all Network Update on the psp offers is 1.52v When will it offer 2.0v over the Network Update?

As a response to comment #114, what you are saying isn’t completely true. If you are in the car, you can’t just start browsing, but you can play emus.

By updating to 2.0 you are missing out on a lot. For all you 2.0, I’m sure that you’ll soon stop using the browser. I thought that the wipeout pure browser was incredibly cool at first, but then I got bored of it. The same thing will happen with the 2.0 browser, you’ll just stop using it. One thing I haven’t stopped using is the snes emulator. That thing will last a million times longer than some mere browser. Sure you can get emus on the PC, but emus on the PSP allow you to just start playing regardless of your location (unless you’re on a roller coaster or something lol). So for all you v2.0 users, I hope you’re happy, because you have a browser, and that’s all you’re gonna get.

Man, I would rather have what Sony has to offer then a bunch of hackers. I mean come on. I do enjoy homebrews. Hell, I was even into them back in the early 90’s. i bought a Cybiko computer and had a blast with them. But the ones I have played for psp just havn’t been doing it for me. Let me explain something. Homebrew is cool, do not get me wrong. However you are attacking people based on your use of the PSP. I upgraded to 2.0 also. I love the browser, the background ability, sharing photos (my coworker and I tried and it works). I do not play homebrew because there is nothing out of any benefit to me. If I want to play 8 bit games I will bust out my old game systems from storage. Oh and by the way, have you used the browser yet? It is very fast. You can save files from the web too. I think you may change your mind if you tried it. But ultimately what I am trying to say is we all use the PSP for many different things. It has versatility to fit any personality for their needed functionality. Thanks.

i have 2 psp so one for homebrew and one for web so i got no problems

i am reading allthe comments on my psp right now the update is helpful to some of us.

I installed the 2.0 update on my PSP and I can reallt honestly say it is a good update. The browser is fast and and clear to read, there’s a number of options for the browser for configuration purposes, I even downloaded a couple of wallpapers from this site via the PSP, it prompts which dir to download to (for pix and vids). As for homebrew, I don’t care because I updated b4 knowledge of homebrew. At the end of the day, I will enjoy the browser on it when my wife is hogging the PC. I encourage the download and applaude Sony for taking the this step in offering this much content in a free update and for killing the handheld console wars.

The ONLY way gta or other future games will REQUIRE an update is if sony implemented api changes in 2.0 and the game requires it. If it simply does a firmware check without any api checks, you can just use one of the many umd run apps for 1.5/1.0 consoles. AFAIK the kernel is identical and they dont have plans on changing that, and thats all that matters for checks. Just load umd run, bypass the check, and play your game. Oh, and you can easily change your background on 1.5/1.0 so thats another reason not to switch.

The 2.0 update is worth it… how do I know? Bcuz I am on my PSP typing this comment. I have a custom background at 880 X 544 rez. I can also download anything on my PSP. I can’t run them but at least I can save them.

Even though we still don’t have java or flash support the overall update is awsome.

Update 2.0 and Fruityloops on my computer (Music sampling/cuting/splicing/editing/transmognifying/MP3encoding software… PSP kick can do what ever… I’ll have FL Studio instead!

Loaders are Illegal as well… Maybe I should tell SONY that you support Pirating and get fined over $25,000.00 (this is just a guess… if you get caught for pirating Music it is a 25,000.00 fine as well for each song… Pirating is Illegal, wrong and dangerous!)

Also they have not tested the so called “Firmware Checker Bypasser” program yet and I have yet to see it work… Untill then FUCK HOMEBREW!

Its easy to make any picture as your wall paper… Just put any image into the folder named “PHOTO” and go onto your psp and view the Photo. Now hit Triangle and hit the left arrow once.. The option is called “Set as Wallpaper” and the option icon looks like an Arrow pointing to a white oval with little dots in it.

PSPersonalize can only implement BMP files at the size: 300X 170. thats really small… even text that small looks fuzzy on the PSP when you look at it… Now I have a picture (as stated before) at 880 X 544 and its in GIF format… looks crystal clear and has no fuzz at all…

Also.. added audio features so we can cram more music into our Memory Sticks…. I still have not seen any HBapp that allows you to play MP4 files… not even DivX Movies…

I put more than 5 minutes on home brew… I had 2 PSP’s at one time… 1 that i had Imported from Japan and one that I got for free from a website deal (USA version). I ran the PSP hello world and it fried my Memory stick. then after I bought a new memory Stick I tried another homebrew only to find it boring… SNES9 is boring! you can go ahead and play those 8 bit pieces of crap and support Nintendo on the PSP.

Guys I got my psp for my bday yesterday and I set it up and being the guy who worries I updated it to 1.5, then I read about all the homebrew (I was mainly interested in pspersonalize and overclocking;) I was like oh shit! but then I went and installed 2.0 and I personally love it…

No, it’s not that great,

As much as a hassle as it will be trying to hack 2.0, at least the new firmware will FINALLY be compatible with Sony’s music service, Sony Connect, which is only logical. And the AAC compatibility is nice too if you use iTunes (minus the DRM protected tracks from the music store).

I was going to go into another long rant, but most ppl don’t wanna hear the truth so I’m not gonna bother. One thing I have to say is that you CANNOT get a pc virus on your psp, anyone with half a brain can tell you that, and anyone saying otherwise is severely misinformed. The last thing you need to worry about on your psp is a virus. Also, as far as homebrew being hard to implement, HA! Everything I have on my mem card worked first time and works every time, its all one click to set up. And, yes, I do have more fun playing nes, genesis, snes, etc than ANY psp game. When a psp game comes out I want to play, I will buy it, until then, there is no reason to play psp games. They are simply not fun.

My opinion, this update is a genius idea for a portable player that supports more content than NintendoDS, Gameboys, PDA’s, etc. Sony did not have to do this, remember, they CHOSE to do it. My choice, I’ll buy a laptop for running apps, more control that way. PSP is there to entertain me, that’s all.

Just to tell u guys, i dont even use dialup no more cause around my house there are some connections that are about 50-80%. so to those who have questions about the connection. SCAN A CONNECTION THAT HAS NO SECURITY, SAVE THAT CONNECTION AND JUST USE THE INTERNET. I HAVE DIALUP BUT NOW I GOT MY PSP TO WORK 3X FASTER SO IM THINKIN OF CANCELIN MY DIALUP CONNECTION.

i have updated my firmware to 2.0 and like it quite much, everything is still in the same language it always was, remember the psp is multi-lingual already (could set the language even to german on my japanese psp)

I updated my 1.5 a couple of days ago. I like homebrew and emulators, but I tried the hacked game browser and it didn’t work well with most of the sites I visit. The 2.0 browser works fine, except it wont connect to Live Journal, does anyone else have the problem? Also, since it seems like PSP is turning out to be a mini computer does anyone know if it will be possible to get MSNIM, YIM, or AIM (and other apps)?

Ya know what i have taken some bites by friends of mine because i updated to 2.0, but the funny thing is i never played the homebrews, never even had an emulator on my computer… the reason i did update is because i noticed that the things they added to it(2.0) are pretty much the same things that you guys have been making on your own since 1.0 came out. I give you a lot of credit for being sucessful in your endevours and wish you luck at securing a flaw in 2.0

I see on some galleries that the page isn’t displayed fully on the PSP…how would you go about scrolling to the right, to get to the other side of the screen (or to whats left on the right side)? R & L buttons? That would be convienant and easy.

Hey, guys. This thing works. The only real problem is setting your DNS. This isnt really useful when you’re in the car. You can use it, and it works just fine, but once the new update after 2.0 comes out it is highly suggested you wait for it, so you wont corrupt anything from too much un-authorized stuff.

If EVERYONE updates to 2.0, the people behind homebrew will be forced to give up 1.5 – 1.52 development and work solely on 2.0 dev. then everyone can have 2.0 and be happy. why keep trying to crack the older versions? everyone wants 2.0, you know you do. push the HB guys to focus only on 2.0. It’s the only logical thing to do.

Im pretty sure people are already working on finding exploits on 2.0! Especialy when it launches in the UK(considering their psp comes w/2.0)….. No one has to convince anyone homebrew will find its way to the 2.0!

make sure your 802.11 card is on. ON your psp and if that doesnt work just go to RESTORE SYSTEM SETTINGS

2.0 is amazing, yes a loved my Snes emulator for my 1.5v. But updating to 2.0 is worth it. Emulators and Homebrew games only last so long and then u get tired of them and realize why u dont have a Nintendo anymore, so update now, and if ur to scared wait until Aug.12 for the North American version, Peace.

Plus Atrac3 rocks my face off and is much easier to use with SonicStage V.3.2 and it takes up less room than an Mp3.

Hi, I updated to 2.0(jpn) and have no problems in recognising my UMDs or playing videos on memory stick. Browser comes up with blazing speed. Only issues encountered are ‘Not enough Memory’ when trying to open some links.

i got a PSP imported from hong kong and my version is 1.52 and the x button is to go back and cirlce to select. Should I update to 2.0 and would it work and not mess my PSP up? Plus would it make it so the x button is to slect and cirlce to go back?

How come all of these guys wrote on july 27. Also some of the fools downloaded the japanese version of the 2.0. Dont they know it viods their warenties. Also for one thing always wiat for the US version of an update cause sony tests the update in japan and finds any flaws and fixs them and makes a US version. So u should always wait for the US version of an update cause it will always better!

ive hado no problems with the jap version, when the us version didnt release on the 12th, i said fuck it and downloaded the jap version. i have no errors. error you might be getting is due to a weak signal. sony better hurry the fuck up with that us version.

I have a u.s PSP and i download this Japanesse update when it first came out. For all of you who cant wait for the U.S Update, just use the Japanesse one. damn im pissed! 2.0 iz great n all but there are other ways to get picture backrounds and web browsers with 1.5, but homebrews dont work because of the release of dnab that prevents homebrews. Now that theres 2.0 editors have to create emultors or home brews that trick the psp ito thinking the program is a 2.0+ update so that it will load otherwise it say the the file is corrupt. this has been done recently by “toms tool’s” editors, but the game, tictac-toe, didnt load the game but it aknowlegde it so there is hope. SO instead of waiting for a downgrade, wait for psp firmware 2.0 hacks.

there is a way to deleat the 2.00 after u loaded it once u loaded it go back to where you would load it under game then itll give u the option to deleat it!!!

If sony hasn’t sent out 2.0 in america they probably havent even checked it! and if they have then they just like to see us sqirm! But it totally fixes every problem ive had with the psp like wire less connection problem and inconveineces like no web browsingand not being able to personalize it, it works perfect on my model psp-1001(american) with no problems and i think the programmers will put fixes and the psp hacks to work on 2.0 you just have to wait a little.

I read on the playstion.com forums that if you have a american psp and use Japanese FirmWare it is possible it will have longterm problems. thats why im waiting till the American version. The post was by a moderator.

Your psp wont know wether you have 1.5x or 2.0 causing it to do different things and frying the motherboard in the end.

You should just evaluate what the psp’s main function is for. For me personally its not the games. Its the ability to watch mp4 movies and go on the web so i updated it to 2.0. I have a nokia 6620 with a SNES emulator on it and it works fine so i dont need it on my psp. Also as everyone said the web browser on 2.0 is 10000000000000000000000x better then wipeout pure. Add a Steno CD311 and u get 40 gigs of movies u can put on your psp. YES THE STENO WORKS AS A 40gig HD DUMP. you still need a 1 gig memory stick tho. And as most of u guys who work are aware having a phone with a emulator is less likely to get u in trouble then having your psp out. The choice is entirely up you. Also
PSP-Hack.com has the US 2.0 upgrade. u need a mstick reader or u need to hook up your psp to your computer. They give u the option to download the update either from there server or sony’s japanese server, but im pretty sure its a US update. Last question tho, anyone know if we can update the browser? it says the browser is netscape 6.1 >.
