Summary Judgement Secured Against Online Retailer
19 JULY 2005
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has won its recent battle against importing and selling of its forthcoming PlayStation Portable console from Japan. In a recent case against online retailer Nuplayer Ltd, Mr Justice Lawrence Collins ruled that Nuplayer had no arguable defence and Summary Judgement was given.
Nuplayer have been ordered to pay substantial Costs and Damages to Sony for bringing the case against them and to hand over its remaining stock, details of sales, supplier data and some customer data.
SCEE claimed that the imported sales of the PSP console was undermining Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s million-pound marketing programme in run up to the console launch scheduled for 1 September.

MaaadAssss F@ckers!!
European consumer gets screwed again!
(Glad I imported mine the same day they were out in USA)
Glad I bought mine in the US! This is so gay. The things people will do to get a game or system EVEN JUST 1 day earlier!!
good news for all of us in england
think of how much we can sell our psp’s for just before christmas. these are gunna sell out fast when they come here its going to be ps2 on ebay all over again whoooo hooo
Yeh i got mine imported too. Good job you can still buy games from cdwow.com.
And im sure this is old news; I heard it like 2 weeks ago.
Sony still shitting on Europe then….
Still loads more companies selling them on the internet. Just 1 site gone. Loads more left.
OHHH Blimey,
Now there won’t be crumpets or tea. Blimey gee blimey gee!
LMAO
“Sony still shitting on Europe then….”
Every games company does.
#7, you are a jackass. Please stfu and go die somewhere.
#2 – when you consider the thing was supposed to be out just after the US launch, i think it’s justified.
#3 – lol, this is very true…
Does Sony not realise that they are effectively getting free advertising from every unit imported into the country.
Not everyone is a hardcore gamer and wants the latest gadgets – but every person who has seen my PSP has said they would buy one when they officially come out.
sony just loves to make friends dont they. another reason to hate sony. you know what they are doing right it will have like firmware 1.6 on it with no crack in site
heh, any uk-ers wanting psps? send me $300 plus shipping and handling and you might just mysteriously find one in your mailbox tommorow for no apperent reason!
Nice. I got mine from japan when they were first released. At least we can stick a middle finger up at sony each time we play a cracked game :)
I dont think ive ever bought an original game. Only for PC to play online.
It’s annoying that here in the uk we get everything last, but i dont see sony’s point, at the end of they its just another console sold if i import.
I think that sony is shooting itself in the foot. If you were to let them actually import from japan until the actual release it would be like one other dude said. FREE ADVERTISING…. That and how much money is it really taking from sony. GREEDY GREEDY
But then again, if i was sony, i’d be pissed to. LOL
well that sucks for all those who now won’t be getting there nice shiney psp’s.
good job i got mine when they where released in japan, still the longer we wait for the UK release the better the hacks are going to be so waiting might be good for those who are not into waiting through beta and alpha testing of Eboot.php’s
Well that’s another nail in the Sony coffin in my opinion. I got mine from DVDBoxoffice and I’m well pleased, but it’s between me and the supplier where I get it from. What’s it got to do with Sony? They still get the money or is that the root cause? They are charging more in the UK than US about $1 to £1 so if you consider that retailers (generally) put the same percentage on the world over that means per console they should make about 30-40% more if the console sells in UK. (Assuming that the bullshit over importing and manufacturing costs that manufacturers always spout it just that – bullshit). I was speaking to a Sony rep (nothing to do with SCEE just brown goods – TV’s and Audio type goods) today (I work in an electrical retailer) and they are pushing products out quickly because they are being whooped by the competition. I don’t think I’ve ever voted for Microsoft but I really hope the XBox 360 kills the PS3. I’ll never buy another Sony product again, and I’ll be recommending other brands over Sony to anyone that comes into my store. They have declared war and I’m gonna take the fight to them.
I have had mine for a few months and won the bid @ £106 haha almost £100 cheaper than they will cost when out in UK !
YNWA
Actually Sony only done this because:
1) You can’t get your PSP replaced at your local retailer and your Import store will most likely not return your product incase you have a dead pixel and what not.
2) Global sales will be inaccurate and if too many imports the system before its initial launch, sales of that region would assumed to be “low” and hurt the company’s value in that region. (Import shops, especially online, does not report sales figures to Sony or another company that records sales of a particular item)
3) Many countries have different patent laws. Some components within the PSP are Under Pending to meet with patent laws of that region which means Sony could be sued if it violates someone else’s patent.
4) Some importers simply way overcharge their prices on purpose. Sony does not lose money at all but consumers do. Sony is protecting consumer’s rights.
