Memory Stick Launcher Alpha Release

greg | June 30, 2005

Update: It looks like v2.0 Alpha of the WAB MS Launcher has been released already. Again this does still not enable you to play any games - yet.

WAB Launcher v2.0 Alpha

source: ps2nfo

AloneTrio of the group WAB has released an alpha version of a Memory Stick (MS) Launcher. Basically when installed this will provide the ability to launch extracted UMD ISO images off the memory stick. One catch - no games are yet playable. Apparently most games will begin loading the intro/title screen and will eventually hang before getting any further. Chances are this is caused by a UMD media routine check. Again no games are yet playable - we’re just one step further!

This was also mentioned on ps2nfo:

“In related news, we also received confirmation today from a popular Chip developer that a PSP Mod is expected to arrive in the near future. On the plus side it will allow you to fully run the ISO images from your Memory Stick, but on the minus side it will likely involve both forking over a bit of ca$h and opening up your precious $250 PSP console. More news on this as it becomes available of course!”

So with all that said, download the WAB Memory Stick Alpha Launcher!

Check back for updates as more information becomes available.

This is great news! Just think how much better battery life will be w/o using a UMD!

Granted, it might take a few software revisions and/or mod chips to get it right, but great nonetheless!

Well, if they make a mod chip, I know a professional guy who works with opening up extremely delicate thing and he could get one in a PSP without getting dust all oveer the screen. Tht’s the worst part of openeing a PSP

Well, at least it does work. I tried lumines and it just locks at a black screen, but wipeout does stop at the loading screen. It doesn’t lock, it just says loading and has the bars moving and thats it, it just stays there. I hope they get this working soon and have it so you can have multiple directories so you can hold multiple games on 1 stick instead of using root. I’m warry of a chip but I would be more than happy to do psp installs :). GJ guys, hope to see more improvements asap!

I think that you need to keep it at that screen for a bit longer since the psp can probably read the UMD a lot faster then it can with the memory stick. I am not even sure if that conserves battery power

“the psp can probably read the UMD a lot faster then it can with the memory stick”

… in what universe is it faster to read optical media than to read memory that has a direct electric connection to the unit? :P

Admin, pspupdates (psphacker) are talking about a successful bootup iso of the game lumnines from the memory stick. They talk about the entire game on ms, but unfortunalty, they can’t host it, I was wondering is psp-hacks could.

“I am not even sure if that conserves battery power”

Well of course it would. Spinning up a UMD would definitely require more power than running that same data of a memory stick.

Try watching a movie from your memory stick versus watching Spiderman on the UMD.

No website is going to host Lumines for people to download, what a silly question!

“Hi, would you please promote piracy and theft? Thanks!”
