Lumines ISO Loader

greg | June 30, 2005

Well, yet again - another step closer in launching ripped UMD games off the memory stick. An anonymous group has released an ISO loader for Lumines and has been confirmed working on 1.50 with the Dynarox release of Lumines. It does require an UMD in the drive - any UMD will do the trick. Currently it lacks sound when playing off the MS. Here is video proof of the launcher in action.

Please note we do not condone or support piracy; no less - it’s breaking news! And no, we will not share with you where to obtain an ISO image of Lumines; however, we will provide you with the Lumines Launcher for the time being.

We will not provide any support/help with this - if you can’t get it working, too bad.

Simpified steps (this is all we’re providing):

  • Extract the ISO contents to your memory stick’s root directory
  • You should be left with I:\PSP_GAME\ - all the game files here, and I:\UMD_DATA.BIN
  • You will then need to patch the BOOT.BIN in I:\PSP_GAME\SYSDIR
  • Patch BOOT.BIN using the supplied PPF patches in the zip archive using PPF-O-MATIC 3.0
  • Load the Lumines Launcher into your PSP
  • Play Lumines off the MS!

Enjoy! :)

According to PS2NFO there is a little more to it..

http://ps2nfo.com/modules.php?name=News&file=showarticle&threadid=2859

You need to patch BOOT.BIN

Actually, I’ve replaced the launcher with the one from ps2nfo - I realized that providing the pre-patched BOOT.BIN probably may cause more legality issues.

So now you’ve got to patch it yourself. The PPF is included.

Damn! Now Sony is gunna force updates and take away all things homebrew. Ton is absolutely right and I have been thinking about this for a while. One of the only reasons Sony is forcing these updates is because piracy is a threat to them. I don’t think there were even talks of patches trying to get rid of homebrew before those ISOs were released on the internet. You guys are so greedy. I pirate other stuff but this is really really bad if this is going to allow us to play pirated PSP games. Now, Sony actually has a reason to take away homebrew and will probably enforce patching in even more ways. Imagine if they made the patch a requirement in games. Right now it’s a suggestion but I doubt Sony will stand for piracy. Just don’t get pissed when Sony tells everyone that every game coming out from now on is going to have 1.52. Won’t that suck? And whos to blame? Not sony. Just the assholes you released those ISOs and are now making loaders for games.

Issac, quit crying. Piracy will always be around. if something can read it, something can write it. Piracy didn’t start today. Other consoles, movies, music, pc’s still survive. Others couldve said, because of you homebrew people, Sony is putting out patches. They were updating before anything was even released. If you can’t beatem, joinem

1.51 - 1.52 and if it goes upto 2.0 will be cracked. The fact this is a multi-media harddrive based system will enable ways through.
It will just take some time.

I believe piracy is no good thing, but PS/PS2 was the most pirated systems ever! and became the most popular systems ever too.

So fear not, Sony will still make a healthy profit by playing cat and mouse with the hackers.

Cool - got it working with a bit of effort.

Tried it twice with no joy. Powered up the PSP, highlighted the loader, placed a UMD (Fifa) in the drive, closed the drive and ran the launcher - worked a charm.

There was 2 posts by other people that was deleted because they said something similar to me. What I’m saying is that playing Nintendo roms on the PSP doesn’t hurt Sony but pirating UMDs hurts them a lot. It’s obvious they’ll want to protect the profit they get off of games. You say everything can be pirated and that’s a good point. But the thing is no console in history was able to update it’s firmware. PC’s can but microsoft isn’t going to take away any functionality away from it’s OS through updates. If they took away kazaa and Limewire through firmware upgrades, there would be a lot of people switching to diferent OSes. So basically this is the first pirating thing that matters (at least to me) because Sony can update the firmware and @@@@ up everything for all of us.

if you own the game, what is the harm? Supplying you with part of the puzzle, giving you instructions on how to complete it, is not telling you to pirate games. It is telling the person who owns the game, how to play it off the ms. Where’s the problem?

They GAVE you a tutorial.
They SUPPLIED you with almost everything you need.

That is the hack. The ISO isn’t. It’s pure piracy.

They’ve supported the UMDloader, every emulator, and every release. But ISOs are not hacks.

UMD dumper is a hack. You want the ISO? Go buy the game for 40 bucks and use the program. Don’t pressure, ask, and pester a great website to host an illegal file.

No one is asking you to use the hacks and be grateful they are doing this much.

It seems a lot of ppl don’t know the difference between hacking and piracy. Hacking means to reverse engineer something to do something it is not meant to to, ie play emulators or load lumines off the mem card. If you own lumines, then playing it off the mem card is great because it saves time to load and you don’t have to carry the disc. If you download the game and don’t pay for it, well then you have piracy there my friend. Playing homebrew apps and emulators is one thing, stealing games is another. Whats wrong with playing games you own off the memory card, so you won’t have to carry discs and you won’t have to wait for the load times? Lumines loads in under a second once you go to start game as compared to about 10 seconds off the disc. C’mon ppl, don’t be retarded. The loader is great, anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron. It has NOTHING to do with piracy. If you choose to steal the game and use this then thats on you. If you decide to rip your store bought copy and play it, thats on you too. STOP BITCHING!!!

Comment by HaredX

As of now, the game is looking for the sound files on the UMD, however, since you are running the game off your memory stick and the psp doesn’t know to look there for the sounds, there will be no sound until someone figures out how to patch the isos to look on the memory stick for sounds

Why are these other sites getting all holier than thou with “this will be our only ripping post” and “we don’t condone piracy” when they are all about emulators. Why are people so ignorant about roms? Steeling a rom is every bit as bad as steeling a PSP iso. If you are playing SNES Secret of Mana on your psp you may as well have stole Lumines. There are no concessions as to whether or not you own the original - roms are illegal! I don’t particularly care about roms or isos etc but I *Hate* when people say its rom to pirate software but that roms are ok. Its STILL pirating software.

/me steps down off soapbox

Having said thing - bring on more emulators and isos! :)

YOU don’t need the UMD_DATA.BIN
(Del it). And when you need in future more games on the stick then edit the EBOOT.PBP and the BIOS.BIN with a HEX Editor and Change “PSP_GAME” to “PSP_LUMI” !
Then rename “PSP_GAME” in the root of your MS to “PSP_LUMI” and all will be good :D
