US Version of Coded Arms DOES NOT Require Update!

greg | June 27, 2005

Update: Sorry, this was initially confirmed by Kei Wo in our forums.

Thanks.

source: gamespot forums

nick just sent me an email stating that the american version of Coded Arms DOES NOT require you to update from firmware version 1.50! nick has left a post and his thoughts on the game over at gamespot.

Americans can remain with their homebrew and now Coded Arms!

why are u guys suprise about the US version not making you upgrade
They said that it was asking for a 1.5 frimware update which the US psp already has. It only requirs the update for the 1.0 version.

Because “goodnews”, knowing that Sony had the power to do that, this would be their chance to strike back at homebrews.

This is one of the biggest new breaks!! Makes u kinda wonder why sony did this huh? Sounds as if either sony wants us to use homebrew cause they realize that we will eventually end up with a ds emu for psp and ill the slaes for nintendo. Or they ahve some other plans…

I laugh at 1.0 version users.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

I hope you spent extra for your PSP that you now have to upgrade. By the way, you can’t play U.S. movies (Japanese is the only 1.0 system) and I can, and you have to use 1.5 kexploit like the rest of us.

That is, unless you don’t want Coded Arms. :P

Shingo, exactly. People forget about v1.0 when they post things like this. So technicaly the header of this post is completly wrong. It will force you to update. That is if you have a v1.0.

Personaly I think the game looks as retarded as all the other in it’s genre. I’ll check this game out (maybe) when I can play the ISO image of it from my memory stick WITHOUT ALL THE EXTRA CRAP FILES that v1.5 people have to deal with ;p ;p ;p

I unfortunately upgraded my PSP to 1.52 :( However, I have the option to sell my PSP to the local Gamestop for $170 store credit and buy a used one for $200. ($30 loss just to get a 1.50) HOWEVER, I’m wondering if this is worth it just to play homebrew games. I mean, what if they crack 1.52 the day after I “trade”? :( Any suggestions?

hey andyZER0 why dont u just take it back to the store u bought it from and tell them it had a bunch of dead pixels…that way u can let someone else deal wit the problem and you would have 1.50 again

what ever(code arms is not that good!) We still need a iso loader! sony did it so a loader would be more illegal.
that was(is) the way out, to say i used a loader because of firmware update. $ony is still wining the war!

well lets see..

snes = more power

nes = less power

——————-

go into the emulator menu (left on the analog or the L button depends on which emulator your running)

put the PSP SPEED up to 333mhz
graffix speed 1.5 sound 1.5 and then frame skip at like 2

then it should run pretty smooth

ISOhaven, thats a great idea…nothing quiet like pirating software for a device that doesn’t have a steady footing in the marketplace yet.

I hope the ability to load ISO images of commerical games never gets here. all it does is keep developers from wanting to make games, and the likelihood of Sony pulling the plug on the PSP higher. Homebrew is a different story…I love homebrew apps, so the news that this game won’t force a firmware upgrade is good news.

But hoping for something to run pirated code is childish.

Fullmetal. You don’t have Halo on your PSP…sorry to tell you.

ReverEND, your ignorance on pirating is understandable.

You need to realize just how small this community is when compared to all PSP owners. The same goes with all other consoles.

No one has ever pulled the plug out on a console because of pirating.

Now I’ll sit back and wait for all the bullshit Dreamcast comments from the rest of the mis-informed.

I can’t wait for a loader!!! My games load so damn slow!!!

So, now for the real question: will other games require newer firmware updates?

or

Is the Jap 1.0 to 1.5 mandatory update a tech issue or a security issue? Did Sony force this because the Coded Arms soft hit 1.0 bugs or because they want to close doors to homebrew and piracy?

I’m crossing my fingers for the bug option, mainly because I don’t see why they wouldn’t pack a newer update if they’re manufacturing the UMD’s solely for the american market and a newer firmware is already available.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see, though.

Comment by ISOHaven
2005-06-28 13:22:11

Well, one thing to realize is that manufacturing of Coded Arms would have had to start BEFORE the swap trick was released. At the very least thier master was finalized before the swap trick.

In order for Coded Arms to have the newest security release they would have to throw away what they had and rebuild the master.

Or if $ony could have given them the 1.51 update early enough then they could have included it however $ony has already stated they will NOT force everyone to update to EVERY update.

smurf, your being a bit aggressive man. But I think myself that sony does not want to have games with upgrades needed, nor do the game compagnies since that would not help the sales at all, not as many people would buy those games since they would not be able to use homebrew. The only reason sony would upgrade would be for legal issues, like nintendo sewing sony for letting people play copyright nintendo games illegaly on the psp.

Even though I have had my battles with ISOhaven, I have to agree with you here. Please bring a loader out. My games are collecting dust, sorta. For all of you anti-pirating people, no one is losing money, I wouldn’t buy the games anyways. Force updating is no good.

You do know when more people buy their psp mostly for homebrew if they know about it and $ony will not do anything about it untill they release some good psp games considering that they don’t have good liberary out. Now if they made a required to upgrade firmware for watching lets say a new umd movie man people will be pissed and that will be a whole new low for $ony!! Face it, the psp isn’t all that is cracked up to be and I even own one. I knew I should’ve gotten a lcd screen for my xbox since it’s modded :-) mmmm p0rn!

this goes out to anyone who wants a psp for dirt cheap.

1.buy a broken one off of ebay for about $50.

2.go to walmart buy a new one in the package (hopefully a 1.0 or 1.5).with cash.

3.using a razor blade carefuly take the barcode sticker off the bottom of the new psp and swap it with the old.

4.now take the broken psp with the new sticker and clean all the prints off. put thebroken psp back into the little white foam baggy put all the shit that came with it and package it all back up perfect.

5.return it to walmart saying that it is the wrong version, your son cant use it.

6.get your money back in cash, all of it!

7.walk out with the biggest hard on of your life!

8.rue the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I promise that this works i have done it 5 time now.and the glory of it all is that if you end up upgrading to a 1.51 or a 1.52 you can do the same thing, just find some old store out in the middle of no where that hasnt sold a psp in forever and they should have the older versions.

your all welcome!..

and if anyone gets all pissy panty about this you can come down to miami and i will personaly split your fucking face!
