Gameboy Advanced Emulator Released

greg | June 21, 2005

A Japanese developer has released VBA v0.01 – a Gameboy Advanced Emulator for your PSP! Currently VBA runs a bit slow as it’s in the early stages of development.

To use simply extract to X:\PSP\GAME\VBAPSP and rename your roms to “ROM.gbaâ€? – use MSwap to generate the two EBOOT.PBP’s if you’ve got a 1.50 PSP.

Button mapping:

  • x = B
  • o = A

Download VBA v0.01

ISOHaven has brought it to my attention that a ROM Selector is also available, allowing you to store multiple GBA roms on your memory stick for use with VBA. Read the included readme.txt file for instructions.

Download VBA ROM Selector

Also check out our downloads area for more PSP homebrew!

be sure to follow the instructions EXACTLY – \PSP\GAME\VBAPSP and rename the rom to “ROM.gba” – it worked fine for me.

Man, this is the shittiest emulator for psp I have ever seen. You can only get 1 rom at a time plus it goes extremely slow so you can’t enjoy the game. I hope someone improves this

Code one better? Until you’re ready to put in the time and the effort you should really sod off. It’s a very, very early version, and if you don’t like it nothing’s forcing you to use it.

#12, just ignore those people. Commenting on them makes a person no better then them.

There is a ROM Selector program you can get for it. I can’t post the link here as I’ve noticed all PS2NFO links get deleted.

I think you need to put the readme, im not sure. But if I were you #14, I would wait. But did you use the swap prog to make 2 eboots and put them in the right places?

2005-06-21 21:25:10

i dont use MSwapTool (Method A) anymore , i use the PBP Unpacker cause i can make my own icons aka (Method B)..

i trust myself making eboots over a computer

but i guess i could try the mswaptool.. it would be the same tho

you can hold more than one rom at a time if you also download the “GBA File Selecter”, just check the forum under homebrew, where i posted the link earlier today if any one has problems just post somthing and I’ll help.

Amazing, someone brings out something so kickass like this, and all some ppl can do is rail on it! Be happy and thankful that someone released something like this. If it wasn’t for dev teams doing this stuff you couldn’t enjoy playing roms like you do now. So shut the fuck up, its the first version. Give it time, the emu scene for psp is really new..

damn.

#22.
no, there is no ROM Folder.
Info.
1) Place the rom in to the emulator file “VBAPSP” Any Name will work not just rom.gba.
2) Load the “ROM Selector”, on your PSP.
3) Locate the “VBAPSP” file where the ROMs are held, Select one the ROMs and press “O”
4)Press “HOME” and exite the ROM Selector,
5)Then Load the VBAPSP, and voila, your ROM will load up….

The VBA files on bolth memory-sticks must be names “VBAPSP” all CapsLock in order for the ROM Selector to work Properly.

ok, theres the screen shows the files in my memory card in tiny yellow text. im guessing thats right because when i get to my desired rom and press circle, japanese characters appear, which makes sense because this program is from a japanese author. do i turn off and make another swap (btw im using 1.5), meaning to select the rom and play requires two ms swaps?

Make sure youre File containing the VBA laoder has the correct loader and that it has you GBA-ROM inside.

also, remember the VBAPSP files must be named “VBAPSP” in all CapsLockes

OH YEAH!!! you might want to try a diffrent rom its not currently compatable with some games or if its over 16MB.so try games like, “MARIO ADVANCE, or METRIOD FUSION” you know something smaller.

Then when stuff is released in early development they bitch about it anyways.

Im doing everything it says in tutorial yet it still loads up then goes back to the psp menu screen – using a 8mb rom so it shud work. The file selector works fine – the gba is in the right folders name “VBAPSP” and all goes fine but then goes back to the menu. Anyone help or shud we just wait for the no swap exploit.

When I had that problem it was allways somthing minor tripple check everything, also when you select the rom and press “O” twice your memry-stick light should stay on for a while to show that its loading the rom for the next swap. if its not then the file system where the rom is located is the problem. hope that helps.

file selector still isnt working for me. i get stuck at the bootup screen and then it turns off by itself. since im using 1.5, do i havta put it through the swaploit program? i cant use the new one because i dont have a usb cable :[

I had both the Eboots in the appriote place. I have no problems with Snes9x. But I hit it on MS1, it goes to the PSP screen. I put in MS2, it fades to black, then goes back to the Home screen. What am I supposed to do because I crave Advance Wars

It has limited features it is a first version intended just to show you what the author is up to.

CURRENT LIMITATIONS INCLUDE:

NO roms over 16MB

NO “L” or “R” button function.

NO Menues

NO Rom Selector

NO Saving

there is no doubt that later version will be vastly improved

I will post updates as they are available in the FORUM.

This GBA emu will probly never be at full speed. In order to do that the whole psp would have to be remade because of the way the processors were built in the unit. I don’t think its possible to hack it to go much faster . . .

All I can say is pure genius,,hands clapping and roarus applause to the dev people and the small guy for putting in the time and heavy hours of programming and debugging and all that technical stuff that I have no Idea about. thank you for trully making my PSP worth the money I payed. I have had to do some serious research on my own but with the aid of this site and google for every type of rom you could find and the readme files stored in the emulator you download from here I couldn’t lose and niether can you just follow all the directions and wallah!!! I now have a working VBA selector and gba loader and sega..nes..snes…and over 300 various games for the PSP now and I really couldn’t be happier although I really would like to see an update for a quicker gba and some emulators for the N64 and or PC games but I Love You guys the web site all your efforts have paid off already for at least me and I can be patient and wait so …… thanx everyone
