PSP “Stuck” Pixel Fix

greg | June 10, 2005

Well apparently this is old news; however, I did not know about it until last night and psphacker.com is in the same boat as us it seems. So, courtesy of psphacker.com we present to you a “stuck pixel fixer.”

This is nothing more than a MP4 video which rapidly flashes red, green and blue frames. This will “stimulate” the stuck pixels and magically make them work again.

I personally had 1 stuck pixel and this surprisingly fixed it for me, so it’s definitely worth reporting on – new or old. If you’ve got stuck pixels, give it a try and let us know your results. I cannot guarantee it’ll work for everyone.

Download Stuck Pixel MP4 Video

Note: this will not repair “dead” pixels.

Well i GOTTA comment about this. Psphacker forum about it shows a lot of people happy with the pixel fixer video. I have 2 japanese 1.0 psps, 1 with 1 pixel that stays white in black screens (otherwise it works) and other iwth 7 pixels that stay white in black screens (like the other one, any other color works). This video did NOT fix not even 1 of the “stuck” pixels or however theyre called. So, for me, it was a BIG disappointment. Anyway, thanks for whoever released the video. Anything added to the scene will be well received :)

Wow it kinda of works! I had i tiny lil patch of dead pixel in the upper right corner of the psp(about 5 total)!

At first I ran it 2 times and nothin happend! Then I saw that someone said “Im gona run it through the night and see if anything happens” I thought that was kinda of extreme but was like what the hell the worst could happen is my psp would melt :) So I ran it for about 2 min and 2 Pixels worked again I have about 3 more left and im gonna run it a lil more to see if i can get some more results out of it!

So so far it works for me Gl to the rest of you:P

Well I ran the Pixel Fixer and it didn’t work the dead black pixel was still there in the middle of the screen. However I decided to pause the movie at every color..because i was bored out of my mind. I was shocked to see that the black dead pixel disspeared on the green screen and on no other color. Everytime I put green on the dead pixel turned green. So I’m guessing its dead when it comes to the other colors but green? Maybe another movie could be made with more colors. Just a thought…

Some times its not the dead pixels its just the screen of the psp if you dont see any white shinny dots on the screen when its black and when its bright you see black or shinny dots that might be just the plastic cover, at first when i got my psp i thought it was a daed pixel so i opened up my psp i dont see it anymore i looked on the cover and it was the cover

You need to put the video file into this folder:

E:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01

Where E: is the driver letter of either your PSP or your memory card reader.

I kinda stumped about this psp “stuck” pixel fixer. The only thing it seem to do was play and after that I played it back but the colors changed it went to the red, green, and blue, to a grey with lines going thru it and now my psp is “stuck” on a screen with lines in it.

well if you cant figure it out maybe it wasnt meant to be! Just open the command console and type “suicide” :) so many questions for something so simple……..

Ummmm I tried it but its a square and does not fill up the whole screen and my guess is that it only works on the part that keeps changing colors and my stuck pixle is on the black part of the movie so I don’t think it is going to help it out.

So how about they make one that fills the whole PSP screen??

I can vouch that this works!

My PSP had 6 pixels that were stuck on (white on a black screen). I set this video to full screen and repeat forever (use the triangle button to get to the options) and after about 30 minutes of running, all of the pixels were working.

I used this updated .zip version:
http://files.psphacker.com/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,21,328

Leave it running for hours if you need to. You don’t even need to have the backlight on for this to work. You can turn off the screen backlight by holding down the brightness button.

Well worth a try if you have any stuck pixels.

in theory, if you had the same issue with an LCD monitor, shouldnt this fix it as well?

A couple misconceptions here. If a pixel is black then it’s off and will probably never turn on. That is a dead pixel. If a pixel is anything other then black (sort of black, no true black with LCD) while the screen is black then you have a stuck pixel. Meaning it can’t change from it’s current state.

Another misconception is that these pixels are white. Well, not quite. Look at them through a magnifying glass. These can only be Red, Green or Blue.

The video is intended to change these “stuck pixels” by means of brute force. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it wont. I have three stuck pixels and the video did nothing for me :( Oh well, luckily mine are in the corners.

As for the full screen question. You need to hit the TRIANGLE while the video is playing then select ZOOM from the screen mode. OR you can convert the video to the higher resolution that seems to force zoom mode which is what the author should have done to being with to avoid this question.

Good Luck!

i have one black dot near the side of my screen when i put this movie on it will always vanish on the red color but on no others does this mean i should leave it on for a while and it may go away?

I found this “Fixer” the other day and thought I would give it a try and I ran it for 16 hours and it didn’t work for my “stuck” pixel (it shows white on a black screen)…

I have 2 pixels that are stuck. I
used the pixel fixer for 8 hours & their still on the screen. Im not too sure, my pixels do change
colour between blue & green when the colours are in use but red turns the 2 pixels black, are they considerd a stuck pixels, dead pixels or something else?

Ok so yeah i have a problem. I have one, just one stuck red/orange pixel near the center of my screen. Now keep in mind i have tried EVERYTHING; massage, flicking, tapping, color video (12 hours and counting), the wiki theroy, literally every single thing i have heard of i have tried many times. that damn thing doesnt seem to wanna go away. its obviously not worth returning it just for one barely noticable pixel, but the fact is even though it isnt noticable i know in my head it is there. so what im trying to say is, am i outta luck? are stuck pixels known to go away on their own after a certain period of time? i really need your input people, because this is driving me crazy!

Worked for me, had about 4 random stuck pixels(not dead pixels, dead pixels won’t come back) and ran the video for less than a minute and they were gone. Deffo does not fix the psp line of death as I have another system with some lovely lines of death that will never go away… oh well, the new one was $20 and the 4 stuck pixels are now fixed, cheers.
