Lumines ISO Loader

greg | June 30, 2005

Well, yet again - another step closer in launching ripped UMD games off the memory stick. An anonymous group has released an ISO loader for Lumines and has been confirmed working on 1.50 with the Dynarox release of Lumines. It does require an UMD in the drive - any UMD will do the trick. Currently it lacks sound when playing off the MS. Here is video proof of the launcher in action.

Please note we do not condone or support piracy; no less - it’s breaking news! And no, we will not share with you where to obtain an ISO image of Lumines; however, we will provide you with the Lumines Launcher for the time being.

We will not provide any support/help with this - if you can’t get it working, too bad.

Simpified steps (this is all we’re providing):

  • Extract the ISO contents to your memory stick’s root directory
  • You should be left with I:\PSP_GAME\ - all the game files here, and I:\UMD_DATA.BIN
  • You will then need to patch the BOOT.BIN in I:\PSP_GAME\SYSDIR
  • Patch BOOT.BIN using the supplied PPF patches in the zip archive using PPF-O-MATIC 3.0
  • Load the Lumines Launcher into your PSP
  • Play Lumines off the MS!

Enjoy! :)

Memory Stick Launcher Alpha Release

greg | June 30, 2005

Update: It looks like v2.0 Alpha of the WAB MS Launcher has been released already. Again this does still not enable you to play any games - yet.

WAB Launcher v2.0 Alpha

source: ps2nfo

AloneTrio of the group WAB has released an alpha version of a Memory Stick (MS) Launcher. Basically when installed this will provide the ability to launch extracted UMD ISO images off the memory stick. One catch - no games are yet playable. Apparently most games will begin loading the intro/title screen and will eventually hang before getting any further. Chances are this is caused by a UMD media routine check. Again no games are yet playable - we’re just one step further!

This was also mentioned on ps2nfo:

“In related news, we also received confirmation today from a popular Chip developer that a PSP Mod is expected to arrive in the near future. On the plus side it will allow you to fully run the ISO images from your Memory Stick, but on the minus side it will likely involve both forking over a bit of ca$h and opening up your precious $250 PSP console. More news on this as it becomes available of course!”

So with all that said, download the WAB Memory Stick Alpha Launcher!

Check back for updates as more information becomes available.

Recent PSP Hacks Issues only Display Headlines

greg | June 29, 2005

Recently we’ve been experiencing an odd problem where users may only see a story’s headline - this is a result of either your cookies or your browser’s cache. Flushing both may be required in order to view the page in it’s entirety.

UMD Loader Released

greg | June 29, 2005

Bri3d and dbase have made the first UMD loader. It will launch a UMD disc directly from the memory stick. What this program hopes to do is bypass the security requiring you to update your firmware to play a game. Right now it is more of a proof of concept program, but future releases will hopefully add functionality like launching a game that is on the memory stick. Right now you must have a game in the UMD drive to play it. There are two versions out one for v1.50 and one for v1.0 PSP’s both are available in our downloads section or you can; Click here for v1.50 or Click here for v1.0

PSP SDK v1.0 Beta Released

greg | June 28, 2005

Mrbrown from ps2dev has released the PSPSDK 1.0+beta. You can find it in our downloads section or by clicking here. You will also need PSPToolChain-20050625. Hopefully this will make homebrew development on the PSP alot easier. Here is a quote about the SDK:

The PSP Software Development Kit (PSPSDK) is a collection of Open Source tools and libraries written for Sony’s Playstation Portable (PSP) gaming console. It also includes documentation and other resources developers can use to write software for the PSP.

PSPSDK is distributed under a BSD-compatible license. See the LICENSE file for more information.

So far only the source distribution has been released. Binary packages will surface soon. Although this isn’t mentioned in the README, PSPSDK requires at least psptoolchain-20050625.
