PSP Over Cellular Connection

greg | May 25, 2005

Someone went through a lot of trouble just to make their PSP surf the net via cellular network. This was accomplished with a “JunxionBox” gateway.

Personally we don’t think it’s really worth all the effort, but this guy did and we’ll report on it.

Here’s your kudos bud! The original article with the story can be found here.

PSP WiFi VoIP Phone?!

greg | May 24, 2005

We’re a little late on this, but it still makes for
interesting news - posted May 22nd on engadget:

engadget is running a story on the possibility of expanding the Playstation Portable’s functionality by adding VoIP
support. The president of Xten believes it may be possible to hack a softphone for the PSP, primarily because of its integrated WiFI support and functioning TCP stack, along with a jack for headphones/microphone and a control connector.

Thanks to danee92 for pointing this out.

PSP Lan Parties

greg | May 24, 2005

I found this over at psphacker.com and I
figured it was a great idea and worth posting;
it’s simply a site devoted to organizing your own
PSP LAN parties in your local area. It’s a great
idea for those who want some serious multiplayer
action - especially with “Infected” coming out! ;)

Check out the their site at

PSP - Infected

greg | May 23, 2005

We don’t post too much about games here unless they have an exploit or look really cool! This one fits the latter. What makes this new game announced at E3. So cool is the multiplayer feature that carries into your single player game. If you go head to head with someone via wireless multiplayer and they beat you they can join your single player games anytime they want until you either beat them via multiplayer or kill their cpu controlled bot in single player when they aren’t around. Here is a screen shot.

Team Xecuter Confirms PSP Videos Fake

greg | May 23, 2005

As assumed correctly by everyone, Team Xecuter has made it official - the videos are fake. They are not responsible for them.

From www.teamxecuter.com:

Some not so funny guys have been posting fake videos of “hacked” psp games with a Team Xecuter intro.

First of all to the sites posting these as “news” - use common sense - ask the actual teams involved or even look at the actual news page (i.e. this page) for release news - don’t go posting videos that are unverified simply to gain extra hits and publicity without verifying its validity - saying that you would post ALL news no matter what isn’t a very clever policy for a reputable news site. Plus we certainley don’t need to be bombarded with a thousand emails from a bunch of headless chickens gagging to be able to play hacked games.”

This was also mentioned:

“Our current work involves busting the firmware - the firmware dumper is already working and there has good progress been made in booting games and also homebrew on different firmware versions (v1.5 etc). We are giving support and advice to other underground teams as well as receiving help ourelves - its an excellent “group” effort without anyone actually knowing about who or what is involved. Apologies if the odd spoiler we throw your way freaks one or two minds :D”

Check out their site for more information. www.teamxecuter.com

As a side note: the psp.dubayou.com video is fake too.

Virus Disguised as PSP Game Cracks

greg | May 22, 2005

Silic0nJ3sus has brought it to our attention that a new virus is spreading over P2P networks - DC++, Kazaa, etc… - disguised as PSP game cracks.

Just a warning to those who may be thinking they’ve stumbled upon something new.

Watch out for these files (or variants):

  • Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children PSP Square Enix crack.exe
  • Metal Gear Acid PSP Konami crack.exe

Of course there’s many more - for a complete list, go here.

Another new PSP Magazine

greg | May 22, 2005

I received another email this morning from the owner of www.psp-heaven.com. They’ve created another optimized PSP gaming magazine which covers all consoles including the PSP. You can tell a lot of work has been put into it. And it is definite quality.

Check it out for yourself over at www.gamersheavenmag.com

Linux and PSP Videos

greg | May 21, 2005

darryl has brought it to my attention that many linux users may have experienced some difficulty transcoding videos to PSP (MP4) format. Support for the PSP has been added to “ffmpeg” allowing you to easily convert your videos.

For further details and how to accomplish this, check out our forums here.
