PSP and Google Maps!
greg | May 27, 2005
sYx66 has brought it to our attention; a brilliant way to utilize the PSP’s image viewing capabilities with Google Maps! I’ve taken a screenshot of Toronto and now I can easily zoom in/out on my PSP finding nearby locations!

How ?? i have the wipe out game and the browser of that game dont run java script and google.com/maps say that i need to enable java script how you do that ?
Copy the JPEG to your PSP.
umm yea that is a very misleading article. Not as bad as psphackers.com , but whatever gets you hits right? Anyways google maps requires javascript functions that are not avaliable for our half baked browsers.
yea…so is this stuff gonna work or was that guy messin around?
what we need is an extremely large JPEG of a map, then we can zoom in and out of it just like using the zoom function of google’s map. Unfortunately, Google’s map is not a jpeg, it’s java based >_>
Uhhh… the wording is pretty clear. You just take a screen shot of google maps (eg. print screen), lunch paint, paste, save as JPEG, load it to PSP. This is not suppose to be a software hack, but just a clever trick that comes in very handy. You guys are getting too spoiled with all the software hacks.. BTW, as a tip I would maximize my resolution to the max (eg. 3840×2400) for the screen shot.
Haha, you guys commenting are tools.
The article is a brilliant idea for an application of the JPEG viewer. I’ve now pieced together a map of Ottawa by taking screenshots of Google maps, and pasting them into The GIMP … and saving it as a JPEG. Ten minutes.
Gimpshop rules. btw has anyone synced the psp with linux?
hey i did that myself a loooong time ago.
I put maps into my PSP of where i had to go and i told people that i had a gps LOL….
or u could just go to Mapquest.com using the web browser hack on Wipeout pure and it works
i am glad to see that google maps is being used in this way, also to the tool above u cant do that if u are in the middle of nowhere with out any internet..?
ya i thought of that after i posted
HAHA thats a funny thing, That was the first thing I ever loaded in to my psp. I needed to find out where my new house was via a bus rout so I took a picture of where I live and put it on the psp.. Probably one of the best things I could have done. no fooling with dumbass maps.
ya it does work good.
hey googlemaps now has a new feature that adds SATELLITE IMAGES to your disposal. on the top right hand corner right above the map it says, in blue font Map-Satellite. click satellite and wow your friends
That satellite feature has been around for like…. months…
can someone please explain fully how to get google maps into the psp,I cant copy the maps
Hey,
if you want to piece together
google maps bigger than a single screen, use my script:
http://web.media.mit.edu/~nvawter/projects/googlemaps
i’ve gone up to 2048×2048 so far!
-shifty
I created a big google map from the city of tucson (4668 x 4025) the only problem is the load time… toooo slow
QuacoreZX google maps is not java based its plain html and javascript
I do not have a PSP, but I believe the problem with big images is the same with any device with a “small” CPU. For that I came up with a solution which I called mapstiler. Check it at http://www.reblusoft.com
You’ll find it within my freeware applications.
It allows to crop the image for html off-line navigation…
